No, a science background is not necessary! The Winter Wilderness Course is designed for anyone aged 16 and above with a passion for wildlife and conservation. Our curriculum starts from foundational concepts and builds up through hands-on learning. Whether you're a student, working professional, or nature enthusiast, the training is structured to make complex ecological concepts accessible to all. The 60% outdoor, 40% indoor learning approach ensures experiential understanding regardless of your academic background.

Participants need to have a moderate fitness level and be able to walk approximately 4-6 kilometers per day on nature trails. The hikes are of moderate difficulty and accessible to anyone with basic fitness. Activities include forest walks along the Ramganga River, river crossing on rafts (with safety gear), wildlife tracking, and birdwatching excursions. If you can comfortably walk for an hour with breaks and navigate uneven terrain, you'll be well-prepared for this program. The focus is on observation and learning, not extreme physical challenges.

An advance payment of 20% Advance payment confirms your slot, with the balance amount due at least 20 days before the program starts. If you need to cancel due to COVID-19 or unforeseen events, a full credit note will be issued if cancelled up to one week before check-in. If the Wilderness team cancels or postpones due to weather, accessibility issues, or other circumstances, a full refund will be provided. The last date to apply being December 15th, 2025.

While this program is not a formal qualification, it provides valuable exposure to ecology and conservation science that can support your career journey. You'll gain practical skills in wildlife identification, research methods, citizen science tools, and conservation leadership. During the course, you can interact with our wildlife biologists to learn about their career paths and receive guidance on navigating wildlife jobs in India. The program builds your knowledge base and professional network, though it's designed primarily for education and skill development rather than job placement. Many free internships with stipends are also available for those seeking work experience.

Vanghat Lodge offers triple sharing (₹35,000), double sharing (₹40,000), and single occupancy (₹67,500) accommodation options with basic housekeeping. You'll enjoy three home-cooked meals daily featuring indigenous local millets and fresh produce, plus afternoon tea/coffee. The lodge is one of India's most eco-sensitive properties, located in a remote area with poor mobile network connectivity - this digital detox helps you disconnect from urban life and fully immerse in nature. The unique entry involves crossing the Ramganga River on a raft, setting the tone for an authentic wilderness experience surrounded by forest where elephants and tigers roam.
